During Year 2 at West Byfleet Infant School, the aim is to provide all children with engaging and enjoyable learning opportunities and experiences across every area of the curriculum. We are a happy team of dedicated staff, who enjoy working together to achieve the very best. We spend a lot of time throughout the year building up strong and positive relationships with all children, ensuring that we know them as individuals.
We feel that children are at their happiest and most motivated when they learn in an environment that is supportive, nurturing and positive. We set challenges and have high expectations of their learning whilst our continued assessment and planning allow all children to receive an individualised curriculum. The children in Year 2 gain skills and understanding within a broad and balanced curriculum. As well as developing their academic ability, we are fully committed to developing the whole child.
Our classrooms reflect the current learning, using working walls as a way of supporting the children. These working walls are updated throughout the week and provide resources to underpin their learning. Children can refer to these throughout the week to clarify their thinking. Children can access learning resources during all lessons to help support their learning. We encourage children to independently select the resource that enables them to flourish in their learning.

Our Enquiry Questions
In Year 2 we have created brand new Enquiry Questions this year!
We have encompassed the National Curriculum Objectives and the children's interests to develop an enriching enquiry based curriculum for all of our children. We believe in teaching the whole child and ensuring the development of all skills within subjects.
As a team, across the school we have developed a curriculum map that has a progression of skills ensuring children start at their own starting point in all areas of our curriculum, this enables all children to make personal progress.
