School Office hours 8.45 to 10.50am and then 11.50am until 3.30pm - please note the school office is closed between 10.50am and 11.50am each day.
Please inform the school if your child is away by telephoning the office before 9am. Please note if your child has been physicially sick then there is a 48 hour exclusion policy from the last time they were sick.
Children are admitted into school from 8.50 a.m. Children arriving before that time should join the Early Birds Club organised in the hall from 7.45am. Children MUST NOT be left at school or in the playground unattended.
Children arriving at school after 9.00 am will be marked late in the register. It is essential that children arrive on time for school or they will miss vital learning activities described below.
Key stage 1 children go into the hall for 'Wake Up Shake Up' after registration. This is a fun movement session designed to prepare the children for learning through exercise and also to promote health and fitness, after which they attend a daily assembly.
The rest of the morning is spent on English and Maths lessons, which include phonics sessions. The structure for Year 1 and 2 English & Maths sessions are flexigroups, which involve children working together in groups on a mixture of independent challenges and guided teaching. This allows all children to be catered for at their appropriate starting point depending on what is being taught. Afternoons are spent on other subject areas. Cross curricular and topic focus days and weeks are planned to enable depth of learning in particular subject areas. Learning is enriched by visitors and trips.
Children have a 15 minute break in the morning.
The teaching time per day is 4 hours and 15 minutes which includes Religious Education, excluding statutory daily acts of worship, registration and breaks including lunch.
The total for the week is 21 hours and 15 minutes.
The Department for Education has recommended the minimum number of teaching hours for Key Stage 1 as being 21 hours.
As the safety of your child is paramount, children must be collected from the teacher at the end of the school day, by you, or someone nominated by you.
